On Thursday, April 19, we support National Day of Action for Afterschool programs -- and hope you will too!
This Thursday, April 19, is a National Day of Action for Afterschool programs across the country. Over 300 supporters of afterschool programs will be meeting in person with their members of Congress to make sure Congress understands how important afterschool programs are to American families and communities. As a leader in afterschool and summer learning, Horizons National is in full support.
And so are most Americans. But the 2019 budget once again singles out afterschool and summer learning program funding for elimination.
Parents are looking for reliable afterschool options, yet Congress will determine whether local afterschool and summer learning programs remain open, reduce their services, or close their doors altogether.
Through our decades of work, we know:
- Afterschool and summer learning programs keep students from falling behind – this is particularly true for students who are already in vulnerable situations.
- Afterschool and summer learning programs work.
- Afterschool and summer learning programs have widespread support.
Can you help? Yes! You can join in and amplify the “Day of Action” effort by calling or emailing your own representatives. Let them know that #AfterschoolWorks!
